SoundCloud Stations is a feature addition to the music streaming platform SoundCloud, imagined by myself and brought to life with the help of two other designers.
The project began with research. Exploring the competitive space, finding out what users liked and disliked about current platforms, brainstorming ways to leverage SoundCloud's existing capabilities into something entirely new. What came out of the research was Stations, a streaming radio service that tapped in to SoundCloud's creative ecosystem-- built by users, for users. By pulling content from previously uploaded/tagged songs and allowing users to add individual tracks to streaming stations, the feature added huge upside to SoundCloud with minimal investment and company involvement.
For the users, it was a smash hit. We seamlessly integrated our concept into the existing platform, mirroring SoundCloud's visual aesthetic and functionality. Coincidentally, SoundCloud released a similar streaming feature themselves a few months after this project had been completed. I like ours better.
